Privacy policy

The app automatically sends usage events to Polished Play. These include app launches, built-in character or backdrop choices, feature and tutorial use, recording and export outcomes, durations, and counts of items used or created. An event about a selected “location” refers to a stage backdrop, not the device’s physical location.

Events include the app edition, version and build, operating-system version, device category, window or orientation information, and timestamps. A randomly generated session identifier groups events from one running instance of the app; a new identifier is generated when the app process restarts. Our analytics payload does not include an account ID, an advertising ID, a persistent installation ID, or an App Store transaction ID.

Our servers also derive and store approximate country and region from the network request’s IP address. The app does not request GPS or precise-location access. Internet requests necessarily expose an IP address and request metadata to the infrastructure handling them.

These events help us understand feature use and diagnose problems. This version does not provide an in-app switch to opt out of automatic usage analytics or error reporting. A session-specific identifier limits persistent identification; it is not a promise that every transmitted record is anonymous.

Recording and export failures can send automatic diagnostic reports. Reports can include error types and codes, technical context, app and operating-system versions, device category, random incident or session identifiers, and recent event names and times. Some error paths also send error messages or stack traces, which can contain incidental technical details such as file paths.

We use this information to investigate failures and improve the app. Diagnostic reports do not attach photos, audio recordings, or finished movies. They are reports of specific failures, not a recording of everything happening on the device.

The in-app feedback form is intended for parents, caregivers, and educators. It sends the email address and message you enter, together with the app edition and a feedback subject, to Polished Play. An email address is required to submit that form, but you can use the creative features without submitting feedback.

We retain feedback to respond, troubleshoot, and improve the app. Our support workflow uses Google Gemini for automated spam screening of the email address, subject, and a limited portion of the message, and Slack to notify our team about support messages. These services are separate from our usage analytics. Please do not include a child’s name, student records, or other sensitive information in a message.

Photos, custom characters, microphone recordings, and movies are processed and stored on the device. School Edition does not upload those creative files to Polished Play for analytics, backup, synchronization, or AI processing.

On iOS, subject cutouts use Apple’s on-device image processing. On Android, cutouts use Google ML Kit’s on-device processing; its separate technical telemetry is described below.

Exporting to Photos or the device gallery, choosing a sharing destination, or enabling a device or photo-library backup can place copies with services you or your school select. Those services’ settings and privacy terms apply. Removing the app or erasing a device may remove local work; users and schools control local backups and retention.

Vercel hosts our backend services, and Neon provides the database storing usage, diagnostic, and support records sent to Polished Play. Support and diagnostic notifications can also be handled through Slack. Google Gemini screens optional feedback as described above; the app’s creative images and movies are not submitted to that service.

Android only — Google ML Kit: the automatic cutout feature uses Google’s subject-segmentation SDK through Google Play services. Input images and cutout results are processed on the device. The SDK can contact Google to obtain or update its model and sends technical usage and diagnostic metrics to Google.

Google describes these metrics as including device and app information, device and installation identifiers for this type of SDK, feature configuration and use, image dimensions, processing performance, and error information. These metrics are separate from Polished Play’s session-based analytics; they do not mean the image itself is uploaded. See ML Kit’s privacy terms and Android data disclosure.

The iOS app does not use Google ML Kit or an embedded third-party analytics SDK. Neither School Edition includes advertising SDKs. Connections from the app to Polished Play and the documented ML Kit telemetry use HTTPS encryption in transit.

Apple and Google operate their respective app stores and managed distribution systems. They and a school’s device-management provider may process account, license, purchase, device, and diagnostic information under their own terms. School Edition does not collect payment-card details or the school’s student roster through those systems.

On supported iOS school-managed devices, Apple ClassKit/Schoolwork can record the start, stop, and time spent on a “Make a movie” activity. Reporting to Apple and the school depends on assigned activities, a Managed Apple Account, and the school enabling Student Progress. That integration does not send the movie or ClassKit activity record to Polished Play. See Apple’s ClassKit privacy information.

Core creation and playback work on the device. Network access is used for distribution and updates, sending usage or diagnostic events, optional feedback, and Android model downloads. Temporarily offline telemetry can be queued for later delivery.

School Edition is designed for creative classroom use without student accounts, advertising, or uploads of student-created media to Polished Play. It does send the usage and technical information described in this policy. The feedback form is intended for adults; it is not a student-profile or classroom-messaging service.

Parents, guardians, and schools can contact us about information they believe a child has submitted, request review or deletion, or discuss their deployment’s privacy requirements. Please avoid sending additional student information when making an initial inquiry.

Our server cleanup is scheduled to remove raw PP2 analytics and diagnostic events older than 90 days, and to remove old session records once no retained events depend on them. This does not set a deletion deadline for support correspondence or copies in service-provider systems. Support messages currently have no fixed automatic deletion period.

Failed telemetry batches are eligible for retry for up to seven days; older batches are discarded when the app next checks its retry queue. That local retry limit is separate from server retention. Deleting the app does not by itself delete records already received by us or by platform services.

You can ask about access, correction, or deletion by contacting privacy@polishedplay.com. We may need enough information to locate a support record and verify the request. Because our usage events are grouped by random sessions rather than a user account, we may not be able to associate a particular session with you. Local creative work and Apple, Google, or school-managed records are controlled through the relevant device or service.

This revision describes School Edition 1.6.9. The July 18, 2026 privacy notice is preserved as a historical copy for reference; its description of the then-current standard and School iOS apps is not a description of School Edition 1.6.9.

We have not changed the standard app’s behavior through this policy update. For a privacy question about another installed version, contact privacy@polishedplay.com and include the app edition, platform, and version so we can address the correct release.

We will update this policy and its date when the relevant app’s data practices change. Platform and version distinctions will remain explicit so schools and families can identify the notice that applies to their app.
